Studies done on cicada antimicrobial coating

  • 1 min reading time

Studies on cicada antimicrobial coatings have generally found them to be effective at reducing microorganism growth on surfaces, including bacteria and fungi.

A study published in the Journal of Medical Microbiology (2012) found cicada antimicrobial coatings were effective at reducing growth of Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. A study in Applied and Environmental Microbiology (2014) found them effective at reducing growth of Aspergillus niger, a common fungus.

Overall, the studies suggest cicada antimicrobial coatings are effective at reducing microorganism growth on surfaces. More research is needed to fully understand their effectiveness in different applications and against different microorganism types.
