What are the benefits of antimicrobial treatment in a car?

An antimicrobial treatment is a form of surface protection applied to a car's interior to inhibit the growth of bacteria, viruses, fungi and other microbes. In practice, that means the steering wheel, gear stick, door handles, dashboard and seats — the surfaces that get touched constantly and almost never get a proper clean.

Why cars need it more than most surfaces

A closed car cabin in Singapore's heat and humidity is close to ideal conditions for microbial growth, particularly inside the aircon system where moisture lingers after every use. Combined with constant hand contact on the wheel, gear stick and door handles, that makes a car interior one of the least-cleaned, most-touched surfaces most people own.

Key benefits

• Reduces the risk of picking up or spreading germs — relevant if you carpool, drive for Grab or private-hire, or share the car with family
• Long-lasting protection — unlike a wipe-down, a coating keeps working between cleans rather than only at the moment of cleaning
• Broad-spectrum — works against a wide range of bacteria and viruses, not one specific pathogen
• Reduces odour — a lot of persistent "car smell" is bacterial in origin, not just dust or fabric
• Hydrophobic finish on fabric — treated fabric seats repel liquid spills rather than absorbing them

What this looks like in practice

Our on-site car interior cleaning and disinfecting service combines a full interior clean with a two-step disinfect-and-protect treatment: aircon vent disinfecting to eliminate odour and kill up to 99.99% of bacteria in the vent system, followed by an NEA-listed antimicrobial coating on the dashboard, doors, seats and boot. The protection lasts up to 6 months, reducing viruses and bacteria by up to 99.9%. We come to you — at your office, home, or wherever you're parked. From $85.
